Swartland

Swartland

The Swartland wine region is located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is situated approximately 50 kilometres North-West of Cape Town. Swartland is a dynamic, emerging wine region which has become one of the most exciting over the past few years, attracting international attention for its bold, innovative wines.

The name Swartland comes from Afrikaans and means ‘black land’ due to the hills covered with shrubs and native plants which lend the region a dark, mysterious appearance. Swartland’s Mediterranean climate, with its hot, dry summers, is ideal for growing vines, whilst its granite, schist soils and cool breezes rising off the Atlantic boost the complexity of the wines.
